What BPD can affect
The pattern and intensity differ between people and can change over time. Areas that may be affected include:
- • regulating intense or rapidly changing emotions
- • maintaining a stable sense of self
- • navigating closeness, conflict, or fear of abandonment
- • managing impulsive actions during distress
- • coping with emptiness, anger, dissociation, self-harm, or suicidal thoughts
These experiences can overlap with trauma, mood, anxiety, substance-use, neurodevelopmental, and other conditions. Context matters.
